Stockholm is the capital and the largest city in Sweden. Gamla Stan (i.e. Old Town) is one of the most representative and frequently visited parts of the city – it is situated on four islets. The islets of Stadsholmen, Riddarholmen, Strömsborg and Helgeandsholmen are spanned with bridges. There are numerous historic monuments and tourist attractions in Gamla stan, among them churches, museums, the building of the parliament and the Royal Castle. This historic part of Stockholm can be easily reached by subway.
