Sicily is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean. It is divided into nine provinces, one of which is Palermo. It is a former Phoenician colony. The city of the same name is now an important center of tourism, culture, trade and industry in this part of the country. Beautiful, sunny weather almost always prevails on the island and thanks to that hundreds of tourists choose it to spend their summers. There are priceless monuments from the Roman times in Palermo, including the city walls and the Punic necropolis. There is also the Palazzo dei Normanni from the 9th century. Palermo is located near the town of Monreale with its famous cathedral, whose construction began in the 12th century.
