The 13-kilometer Mueller Glacier is located in New Zealand's Southern Alps, near Mount Cook. The glacier owes its name to German-Austrian geographer and botanist Ferdinand von Mueller. Steep moraines limit access to the glacier, which is crowned with the picturesque proglacial lake. There is the Mueller Hut vantage point located nearby, there is a characteristic red building of a mountain hostel. From this place, after a few hours of trekking you can admire a spectacular panorama of snow-capped peaks and ice cliffs.
