In various cultures flowers serve a variety of functions, which are most often defined with the help of symbols. These symbols relate to colors as well as to kinds, shapes or places where flowers occur. The most popular is the symbolism related to the color of petals, most often those that are in a bouquet given to somebody. A bouquet consisting of white, red and lavender flowers means that a person giving it has fallen in love at the first sight with a person who receives flowers, whereas receiving a bouquet of red flowers with one white symbolizes an intention of a proposal.
