The Mayas created a highly advanced civilization – their architectonic solutions are surprising even today. Similarly, their astronomical knowledge was also astonishing. The origins of the Maya civilization date back to 400 B.C., whereas its collapse is related to the Spanish conquest in 16th century. In 1746 ruins of a Maya town with the famous Temple of the Inscriptions were discovered – the complex was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
