Valencia is a city located on the east coast of Spain. It was founded in the 2nd century BC, but it flourished particularly in the 15th and the subsequent centuries. During this period the population of the city grew rapidly and many famous buildings were built. Increased housing needs made the plots in the center of the city extremely expensive and for that reason only the richest could afford the construction of their own building. The need to minimize the construction costs forced the purchase of small plots of land and the construction of multi-storey buildings on them. Thanks to such kind of construction the city is charming, with a network of narrow streets and cramped courtyards.
