Ushguli is a village located in the Georgian region of Upper Svaneti. The community is situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters above sea level but it is still dominated by the highest peak in Georgia, Shkhara. The infrastructure of the village is dominated by towers that served residential and defensive function. Each of them have belonged to a different family for centuries. Ushguli is not visited by too many tourists and during harsh winters the settlement is almost completely cut off from the world. As a result, the village has retained its medieval atmosphere and its inhabitants speak a unique dialect.
