Ruined houses on ‘Staromiejska’ street, with part of the Old Town of Olsztyn (1945) The High Gate managed to survive as it was used as a prison until the second half of the 19th century. The commemorative plaque informs that Wojciech Kętrzyński, a Polish historian and an activist, was detained here in 1863 for smuggling weapons for the participants of the January Uprising.
