Town of Nafplio (Greece)
Nafplion is a small Greek town located in the Peloponnese. Together with the port of Argos the town was the most important port of ancient Greece, however, at the end of the era it began to decline and in the 2nd century BC ceased to exist. It was rebuilt during the Byzantine domination and a stronghold was erected here too. Another end to the splendor of this town falls on the first half of the 19th century, when the capital of independent Greece was established in Nafplio. Since the 1960s the town has observed the dynamic growth of the tourism sector. Visitors are attracted by the ancient ruins, the proximity of the sea and the typical charm of the Mediterranean towns.
