Tripoli (Libya)
The capital of Libya, Tripoli, is a large port city founded by the Phoenicians and located on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sa. There are ancient monuments from the Roman era, including a triumphal arch of Marcus Aurelius, and numerous mosques. Martyrs’ Square, formerly known as Independence Square and Green Square is one of the most important places of Tripoli. Right next to it there is the National Museum. The city’s architecture is characterized by skyscrapers and luxury hotels located at seaside promenades. Tourists often visit the Medina, i.e. the city’s old town.
