Ukok Plateau (Russia)

Ukok Plateau is located in the Altai Republic in Russia, within the limits of the Mongolian Altai mountain range. The plateau is known for a beautiful mountainous landscape as well as original fauna and flora. The Khuiten Peak, the highest peak of the Mongolian Altai, is perfectly visible from the plateau and for that reason it is often visited by tourists. The Ukok Plateau is well known in the world mostly due to the discovery of a perfectly well preserved mummy of a young girl from before 2500 years. The discovery was made in 1993 and the mummy is commonly called the "Altai Princess". At present the mummy is kept in Novosibirsk, however, some efforts are being made to move it back to the Altai.
