The island of Galveston is located in the southern United States, in the state of Texas. The area of the island is occupied by the town of the same name. When visiting historic districts in Galveston we get the impression that we moved in time to the Victorian era. Rows of historic homes with bright, decorative facades and spectacular verandahs with distinctive balustrades emphasize the great southern atmosphere of the town. However, the island is often hit by hurricanes and for that reason new buildings are built on stilts to protect them from a flood wave.
