Waimea Canyon (called also the Great Pacific Canyon) is located in the western part of the Kauai Island, which belongs to the Hawaiian Archipelago. It is 16 km long, whereas its height reaches 900 meters. The Canyon, which has a characteristic red tint owes its creation not only to a long-lasting process of erosion but also to a volcano eruption, which took place thousands of years ago. The Kauai island is the top of this massive volcano.
