Tradition of arranging wedding bouquets dates back to archaic times. Bouquets (and initially chaplets) had - and in a lesser degree they have today - a symbolic meaning. They were symbols of a transition from maidenhood to a marriage. Those containing only white flowers were the expression of innocence and chastity of a maiden. If a maiden had thrown away a bouquet that meant that she was ready to get married and to set up a home.
