Romania is one of the few countries in Europe that can boast a large population of wild horses. They occur mainly in the foothill areas in the north of the country and in the east in the nature reserve in the Danube delta. Wild horses need enormous space and for that reason in densely populated Europe there are few places where they can live peacefully. Horses gather in quite large herds, they are not afraid of people, unless they are disturbed. If you are lucky you can meet them grazing on roadside meadows or resting in the shade of trees.
