Gerbera is a perennial from the Asteraceae Family. The name of the plant originates from the name of the German biologist and botanist Traugott Gerber. The number of the gerbera species reaches 50. Gerberas are found mostly in Madagascar, Africa and in tropical parts of Tasmania and Asia. Stems of these flowers are leafless. Gerbera requires sunny, warm and humid conditions. In Poland it is grown only in greenhouse conditions, mostly for cut flowers. Its yellow flowers are considered to be a symbol of warmth and the sun.
