The capital of Finland, Helsinki, is a large port city on the Gulf of Finland. The panorama of the Old Town is dominated by the main temple of Helsinki - Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The building is located in the district of Katajanokka. The Uspenski Cathedral was opened for the faithful in 1868. It was designed by the Russian architect Alexei Gornostaev. The temple is visible from afar thanks to its characteristic red façades and golden domes. The architectural style of the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God reminds of the Russian presence in the history of Helsinki.
