San Antonio is a city in the American state of Texas. The famous battle of Alamo took place here in 1836. The outnumbered Texans fought with a larger army of the Republic of Mexico. Approximately two hundred people stood against the attacks for almost two weeks. They were defending the building of the 18th-century chapel, which had been transformed into a fortress. “Remember the Alamo!” was a rallying cry for those fighting for the cause of Texas independence. Today the chapel and military barracks are willingly visited by tourists from all American states. The former temple, which today serves the function of the museum, is surrounded by cloisters and a garden. There is a very old oak on the Alamo’s courtyard – the branches of the tree are twisted in unique forms.
