Tsarskoye Selo is a palace and park complex from the 18th century, it was founded by Catherine I on the areas that she received from her future husband, Peter I. Despite the fact that the ground was uneven and marshy, the monarch ordered to build the most exquisite palace complex in Russia. Tsarskoye Selo is the most valuable monument of Russian Baroque to this day, whereas the Catherine Palace, which is also called the Jakateryninski or the Great, is a real jewel in the crown. The Ballroom is the most beautiful chamber in this monumental edifice, it covers 900 square meters and its walls were covered with mirrors and sconces, which gives the illusion of infinite space.
