The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, is also the largest city in the country and the center of the agglomeration. The city is located on the Danube river. Petržalka is the largest and most densely populated district of Bratislava. After World War II multi-storey blocks of flats were erected there. For the last several years the city authorities have been trying to ensure modern infrastructure, access to recreation and sports facilities, cultural events, as well as green areas. The post-communist blocks begin to displace elegant office buildings. The district borders with Slovakia neighboring countries – Hungary and Austria.
