Sighişoara is a city located in central Romania, in the historic region of Transylvania, on the Târnava Mare River. The long and turbulent history of this medieval fortified city is visible due to numerous monuments, such as the 14th-century fortress with defensive walls, numerous churches, the house of legendary Dracula as well as wooden Scholars’ Stairs leading to the hill. On top of the Scholars’ Hill there is also the Turnul Franghierilor, i.e. the Ropemakers’ Tower – one of the city's defensive towers. At present, this historic building is inhabited by a parish cemetery guard.
