Ålesund is a Norwegian port town located on several islands in the western part of the country. The town is surrounded by fjords and it is situated at the foot of the Sunnmøre Alps. Ålesund is extremely consistent in terms of architecture – in 1904 the town was the scene of the Ålesund Fire and was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style. The main attractions of Ålesund include the large Atlanterhavsparken aquarium, Art Nouveau Centre, Kongensgata pedestrian area and a large port. The skyline of the town can be enjoyed from a viewing platform located at the top of Mount Aksla.
