The Viennese Belvedere is located in the south-east of Vienna. Surrounded by beautiful French-style gardens, there are two Baroque palaces designed by architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Originally, the so-called Lower Belvedere housed the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, while the Upper Belvedere served representative functions. The Lower Belvedere was put into use in 1716. Currently, it houses the Museum of Austrian Baroque. Between the buildings there is a walking path with statues of sphinxes situated on the way.
