Plaka, the Athenian district located in the shadow of the northern slope of the Acropolis, is called the "Neighborhood of the Gods". In this beautiful, historic district there are, among others, Byzantine temples, the Roman agora, 12-meter Tower of the Winds from the first century BC, the ancient monument of Lysicrates and several museums. Nevertheless, its unique atmosphere is created primarily by countless taverns and restaurants, serving local Greek food to tourists and natives. Narrow, stone streets are best to walk on foot and in this way reach Anafiotika, a small patch of land once inhabited by workers coming from Anafia. The characteristic buildings of this part of Plaka are dominated by white houses.
