Plaka is a historic district of Athens located at the foot of the Acropolis. This part of the city is full of tenement houses from the eighteenth century rising above the narrow-lane streets. Numerous squares and pedestrian streets are crowded with tourists moving between the most important monuments located in Plaka: the Ottoman Mosque of the Conquerors, the ancient Lysicrates monument, the 12th-century church of Agios Ioannis Theologos and the temple of Agios Nikodimos. In addition, there are museums, numerous clubs, restaurants, taverns and souvenir shops situated within the district.
