The Great Smoky Mountains Range, the part of the Appalachians, towers over the border of the American states of North Carolina and Tennessee. In 1934 on the area of the Smoky Mountains the national park was created, which is one of the most popular parks in the USA nowadays. It is visited by over nine million people every year. Despite the fact that these are not the highest mountains in this country (the highest peak is 2025m high), tourists are fascinated by this place and they eagerly return. The mountains own their name to characteristic, sky-blue fog that often appears over them. Because of that reason the Cherokee Indians named that place the Land of Blue Smoke.
