A magnificent 15th century edifice is one of the most important tourist attractions of Denmark. In the past it used to be a royal residence, military garrison, and even a prison. The Kronborg Castle is associated with two characters: Ogier the Dane and Prince Hamlet. Within the castle Shakespearean Hamlet is staged and it has become a tradition. Today tourists who visit the castle may see the royal suites decorated in the Renaissance style and the 60-meter-long hall, which is the longest in Europe. What is more, the Kronborg Castle serves the function of the Maritime Museum.
