Candying is a process of frying food products, usually plants, in sugar syrup. Particles of different types of fruit preserved in such a way are a traditional ingredient of Christmas cakes, such as Easter short crust tart, fruitcake, cheesecake or paskha. The most popular candied delicacy is orange peel and colorful blends, which include cherries, pineapple pieces, kiwi, cranberries, papaya and ginger. Due to the addition of sugar, candied fruits are very sweet and quite calorific and for these reasons they should not be eaten in excess. Dried fruits that contain only natural sugars will be definitely healthier.
