Waikiki Beach is the tourist centre of the Hawaii Islands. Along the beach there countless hotels. This place is very attractive in terms of tourism. The beach is mostly known due to the Diamond Head – the extinct volcano, and also due to unusual surfing conditions. Warm climate as well as high and foamy waves attract surfers, for whom even a half of the Waikiki beach is often allotted. At the beginning of the 20th century the beach started eroding slowly. In order to prevent degradation it was decided to bring sand, among others from the Manhattan Beach in California. Until today the project of replenishing sand and controlling its amount is being continued.
