Big Almaty Lake lies in the south-eastern part of Kazakhstan near Almaty, the largest city in the country. The lake, despite its name, is not large. It certainly cannot compete with the largest lake in Kazakhstan and in the world - the Caspian Sea. However, the lake is famous for its beauty. It is picturesquely situated among the Ile Alatau mountains, which are the part of the Northern Tian Shan mountain system. The lake can be reached through an asphalt road, by which there are eateries and equipment rentals. The residents of Almaty and the surrounding towns often choose the lake as a place of family picnics and walks.
