The Maldives is an island state located in the Indian Ocean, south-west of the coast of India. Its capital is located on the island of Malé. The inhabitants of the archipelago derive income primarily from tourism, but also from fishing, as well as coconut and banana plantations. Visitors to the Maldives have dozens of resorts at their disposal, some of which offer luxuriously furnished stilt cottages washed by warm turquoise waters of the lagoon. Clean, sandy beaches are the biggest attraction of the archipelago. Some of them are located on uninhabited islands.
