Plitvice Lakes National Park is located in the central part of Croatia. The park is famous for its several karst lakes that are arranged in cascades. The lakes are interconnected by approximately ninety waterfalls. Water falls into the lakes situated below the porous dikes and thanks to that these bodies of water create a unique composition. The park is also distinguished by the abundance of flora and fauna. For tourists there are trails of varying difficulty. Plitvice Lakes National Park was officially opened in 1949, but the nature reserve had existed there before.
