Garden strawberry was first bred in 1712 via a cross of the Virginia strawberry and Chilean strawberry. Currently, its fruits are a popular delicacy, grown mainly for culinary purposes. Strawberries taste delicious raw, with sour cream, yogurt or sugar, as well as an addition to desserts – ice cream, jellies and cakes. They can be also consumed in dry versions: with pepper, balsamic vinegar, accompanied by aromatic cheeses and even in a salad with eggs, ham, chicken breast, spinach and rocket. Strawberries are low in calories, but they have a lot of vitamins and minerals, for these reasons summer is the time when they can be eaten almost without any restrictions.
