Funchal is a city located on Madeira, the Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean. The large farmer’s market Mercado dos Lavradores is one of the main attractions of the city. A large storied hall is decorated with traditional azulejos tiles. The bazaar is visited by both city dwellers and tourists to the city, who are lured here with a riot of colors and abundance of exotic flavors and aromas. The stalls are dominated by fish, fresh fragrant flowers and colorful fruits, among which various species of passion fruit and the local curiosity that resembles an elongated cone – a cross of green banana and pineapple, are the most popular.
