Still life is one of the painting topics, which has been popular since ancient times. Its name was invented by the Dutch art historiographer Arnold Houbraken at the beginning of the 18th century. The name "still life" is used to define all utilitarian items - such as flowers, books, weapons and dishes – which create an effective composition of colors and various shapes. One of the most important motifs of "still lives" is food.
