The present day deck of cards most probably comes from old banknotes – cards were known in China before 10th century, and originally money was used as cards. Cards arrived in Europe in 14th century. They became particularly popular as soon as printing was widely available in European countries, which made it possible to produce a deck of cards in a quick and cheap way. Today cards are used not only for games, but they are also a characteristic prop of fortune-tellers. A classic deck of card has also evolved into other forms that are distant from the standard one – the best known are card strategic, board and RPG games.
