Flour and water, sometimes also eggs, are the basic ingredients of pasta. Simplicity of this recipe has made pasta to be one of the oldest and the most common dishes in the world. The oldest dish that has been found during archeological excavations is pasta itself – it was four thousand years old and it had been found in China. The first records of this dish in Europe can be found in historic manuscripts from as early as the 2nd century. Today Italy is the “capital” of pasta. Italian chefs distinguish over 300 kinds of pasta and it is almost impossible to count the recipes used to prepare them.
