Skeppsholmen is an island in the centre of Stockholm. It is known not only as the part of the Swedish capital where numerous monuments and museums are located, but also as the part where the residential boats are moored. Swedish residential boats are usually old ships, most often barges turned into houses (and also into the public utility institutions, such as hotels or restaurants). These boats are permanently moored to the coast; they are accessible directly from platforms placed on the waterfront.
