Fortified town of Aït Benhaddou is one of the eight Moroccan historic sites enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. It is not known when the settlement was founded, however, it is certain that it was functioning in 16th century. Its collapse was related to changes of trade routes and opening new routes in West Africa.
