Vernazza is a town located in the north-west of Italy, on the coast of the Ligurian Sea. Most likely the settlement was established in the 11th century as a port which was used during the campaigns against the Saracens. The original settlement was situated in the area of present-day Vernazza due to an easy access to the sea and quite high hills that facilitated observation of very distant areas. Today the same geographical features make the town attractive for tourists who enjoy spending their time close to the sea and in the bosom of nature. What is more, the town is even more charming due to the presence of picturesque colorful tenement houses that are situated on the hills surrounding the bay.
