Hunedoara is a Romanian province located in Transylvania. This area was subject to a multitude of various cultural influences for centuries. Initially it was ruled by the Hungarians, then the Turks, for several centuries it was also in the German sphere of influence. Within the limits of Romania, Transylvania was assigned to Romania only after World War II in 1945. The complicated history of this land is the source of its remarkable cultural diversity. Despite the fact that the Romanian inhabitants of these areas have long professed Orthodox Church, the religious architecture of Romania is characterized by both Latin and Oriental influences.
