In the north of Russia there is the second largest lake in Europe - Lake Onega. The island of Kizhi, known for its complex of wooden churches, is located near the center of Lake Onega. The Church of Transfiguration, built in 1714, is undoubtedly the most beautiful building. The summer temple was built mainly of pine wood, almost without the use of nails, there is also no foundation. Its characteristic 22 domes which can be seen from a distance of several kilometers. The temple measuring 37 meters was built by the local peasants and is a great example of the Russian traditional crafts.
