Český Krumlov is located in the South Bohemian Region and is one of the most beautiful towns in the Czech Republic. A unique location of the town that was built on the rock just above the picturesquely winding river Vltava is paricularly noteworthy. The river is dominated mainly by the thirteenth-century castle, around which the town developed over the centuries. The vast castle complex in Český Krumlov is the second largest – after Prague Castle – complex of fortified buildings in the Czech Republic. In the Old Town there is a sixteenth-century town hall, several museums and historic churches.
