Tropical gardens surrounding the Monte Palace on the island of Madeira were founded in 1987 by the entrepreneur José Manuel Rodrigues Berardo. The businessman bought a magnificent property situated on a hill above the capital of Madeira, the city of Funchal, and restored it to its former glory. He took care not only of the surrounding garden, bringing beautiful plants from different corners of the world, but also created two artificial lakes, in which exotic colorful fish swim. He also enriched the gardens with fancy bridges, gazebos and sculptures. Thanks to the efforts of the foundation taking care of the estate, Monte Palace is a favorite leisure place for both the locals and tourists who come here in large numbers.
