Until recently knitting was one of the basic skills that all housewives could do, little girls learnt some simple stitches not only from their mothers or grandmothers, but also at school during practical classes. Today a knitting skill is a rarity among young people and the process of self-making various articles becomes almost an ideological manifest. For some people it is just a hobby, for others it is a way of opposing the culture of consumptionism and mass production, whereas some people will perceive it as a form of art. On the streets of many cities there are trees or road signs “wearing” colorful knitted sweaters. This way of public space decoration is called knit graffiti.
