The ruins of pre- Columbian Maya city are located at the coast of the Caribbean Sea on the Yucatan Peninsula. It was one of the last settlements built by the Maya civilization, its origins date back to 13th – 14th century A.D. The most important monuments to be seen in Tulum are: the two-storey Temple of the Frescoes with characteristic columns that is seen in the picture, Temple of the Descending God and the guard tower (castle), which used to serve the function of the lighthouse too.
