Sintra is a Portuguese town located near Lisbon. We may admire a few important historic buildings there, such as colorful and slightly kitschy Pena Palace, Castle of the Moors or The Convent of the Friars Minor Capuchin. In the historic center of the town there is the magnificent National Palace (Portugeuse: Palacio Nacional de Sintra). The two white chimneys, in the shape of high narrowing cones, are the characteristic features of the edifice. This medieval royal construction was erected on the remnants of the former Moor palace and it was inhabited until the 19th century. It has been reconstructed and rebuilt many times, and for that reason it features a few architectonic styles. The interior of the National Palace – which is accessible for the public – is very impressive. Colorful, richly decorated ceramic tiles, which are used inside, are among the most magnificent elements of the interior decoration.
