Salzburg is an Austrian city located on the river Salzach, close to the German border. The historic centre of the city has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s panorama is dominated by the medieval Festung Hohensalzburg fortress, which is situated on the hill. Among other important historic buildings there are St. Peter’s Abbey and St. Rupert’s Cathedral (German: Sanktrupertkathedral), designed by Santino Solari. The city’s architecture is dominated by Baroque architecture, with lots of bulbous domes covered by patina. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg.
