Hohenschwangau Castle was built in the first half of the nineteenth century at the site of a former fortress called Schwanstein. The Neo-Gothic edifice was the summer residence of King Maximilian II of Bavaria and his family. Charming turrets and pinnacles as well as a bright yellow facade of the castle located on a green hill, make it perfectly visible even from far away. This Alpine royal castle offers a beautiful view of mountain peaks reflected in the lake. The chambers of the Hohenschwangau castle are available for tourists.
