Hagia Sophia is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Its name literally means "Holy Wisdom". This monumental historic building is a landmark of Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey. Originally it had been a Christian temple, built on the order of Justinian I, but after the conquest of Constantinople the Turks converted it into a Muslim mosque. Distinctive minarets were erected then. The interior of the temple, now converted into a museum, is decorated with wonderful mosaics.
